]]> De Santolina komt oorspronkelijk uit het Middellandse zeegebied. Het is een kleine bossige groenblijvende plant, die tot ongeveer 50 cm hoog wordt. Hij is redelijk winterhard en zeewind tolerant. Hij is zilvergrijs van kleur en heeft gele bolvormige bloemen. Hij heeft een zeer aromatische kruidige geur.
